In the heart of Madrid, on one of its bustling streets, a daring robbery took place last night at a shop specializing in branded clothing with history. A group of criminals, arriving in three vehicles, managed to break in despite heightened security measures and, within seconds, made off with valuable items.
At around three in the morning, Virgen de los Peligros street—which links two of the city’s main arteries, Alcalá and Gran Vía—became the scene of a meticulously planned operation. The perpetrators, who had failed in their attempt the night before, returned to finish what they started. This time they came better prepared: choosing a different entry point, and bringing more people and vehicles.
After breaking through the metal grate, the thieves gained access to the premises. But time was short—the alarm went off instantly and police patrols rushed to the scene. In less than a minute, they smashed the inner door and grabbed whatever was within reach: two pairs of sneakers, each worth nearly €400, and three bags whose exact price is still unknown. Preliminary estimates put total losses above a thousand euros, but the shop owner is still unable to name an exact figure as inventory is ongoing while forensics are at work.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the incident. It is known that the perpetrators acted quickly and in a coordinated manner, fleeing the scene in vehicles and leaving no obvious traces after the theft. Forensic specialists worked at the scene, searching for fingerprints and other evidence. The case is likely to be handed over to a specialized unit dealing with similar crimes in the capital in the near future.
Interestingly, there had been an attempted robbery the day before, but that time the criminals were scared off by passersby and the city’s bustling activity. They chose the wrong entrance and ran into a heavily reinforced door, which foiled their plans. However, the following night, they returned, learned from their mistakes, and managed to carry out the heist despite all obstacles.
It is still unclear whether police will be able to track down the gang, but it’s evident the criminals prepared thoroughly and followed a clear plan. The boutique owner hopes the investigation will help recover at least part of the stolen goods, while city authorities are already discussing tougher security measures in central districts.
