A new round of support is launching in Spain’s capital region for those struggling to find or afford housing. Starting November 4, Madrid residents can apply for monthly financial aid that covers up to half the cost of renting a flat or a room. The amount ranges from €600 to €900 for apartment renters, and from €300 to €450 for those renting a room in shared accommodation.
The program is aimed at young people, citizens over 65, and families facing difficult life circumstances. This year, the coverage area has expanded: now, residents of 55 municipalities are eligible for support—almost twice as many as before. This decision will enable more people to get much-needed assistance.
The compensation period covers the entire calendar year, from January to December. To participate in the program, applicants must meet certain criteria, including maximum rental limits. Regional authorities expect that these measures will help more than 7,000 people ease their financial burden and avoid the risk of losing their homes.
The initiative is funded as part of the government’s affordable housing plan for 2022–2025. Amid rising property prices and labor market instability, such measures are especially relevant. The program aims to ease social tensions and give those in vulnerable situations a chance for a decent life.
