An incident that shocked the local community occurred in the small town of Fornells de la Selva (Girona). On Sunday evening, a woman with severe burns on her face and hands was found in one of the houses. Preliminary reports indicate that her partner, a 52-year-old Spaniard, may have tried to kill her by dousing her with a flammable liquid and setting her on fire.
The victim, a 53-year-old Czech national, was urgently taken to Vall d’Hebron hospital (Barcelona), where doctors are still fighting for her recovery. Despite the severity of her injuries, her life is currently not at risk, but due to her condition, she is unable to give a statement.
Police and paramedics responded swiftly to the scene. According to their reports, the couple lived in a house that was officially listed as occupied illegally. Their relationship was reportedly turbulent, with frequent conflicts that, investigators believe, may have led to the tragedy. The man, who was detained at the scene, had previously been on law enforcement’s radar for various offenses, including threats and domestic violence.
After his detention, the suspect was brought before the Girona court, where he was temporarily released under an order barring him from approaching the victim. Investigators are not ruling out other possibilities, including that the man may not have played a role in the woman’s injuries. The circumstances of the incident are still being clarified.
