Spanish Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party Pedro Sánchez delivered a strong criticism of right-wing forces at the International Socialist Council meeting held in La Valeta, Malta’s capital. In his speech, Sánchez stated that conservatives have turned ‘Black Friday’ into an ongoing strategy, selling off not only public services but democracy itself for political gain. According to him, this approach has become the norm rather than the exception for the opposition.
Sánchez, who chairs the International Union of Social Democratic Parties, emphasized that traditional right-wing forces have abandoned their own principles in order not to lose ground to the far right. He pointed out that only social democracy can offer real solutions for society, unlike their opponents, who, in his view, act solely for the sake of power.
Notably, in his address, Sánchez completely avoided the recent scandals involving his party and government. In particular, he did not mention the situation with former minister José Luis Ábalos and Koldo García, who have been at the center of major investigations and taken into custody. The prime minister also made no statements regarding the conviction of the attorney general, which raised questions among observers.
