On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez found himself at the center of tense Senate hearings. The session was prompted by an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Koldo case, which is linked to corruption allegations involving former transport minister José Luis Ábalos and his former adviser Koldo García. Also under scrutiny was the former deputy head of the Socialist Party, Santos Cerdán, who is currently in custody.
The exchanges with members of the UPN party proved particularly heated. Their spokesperson, María del Mar Caballero, ended her address by calling on Sánchez to resign, stressing that he bears political responsibility for the situation. The Prime Minister, for his part, made it clear he has no intention of stepping down and will answer questions from all factions, despite the mounting pressure.
During the hearings, Vox party representative Ángel Pelayo Gordillo joined the discussion. He questioned Sánchez’s respect for the Senate and tried to link the Koldo case to the prime minister’s wife, heightening tensions in the chamber. Sánchez rejected such insinuations, emphasized the importance of the Senate’s work, but said he saw no point in continuing this particular commission.
The Koldo case hearings once again highlighted the deep political divide in the Spanish parliament. The opposition insists on a thorough investigation into all aspects of the corruption schemes, while the government, represented by Sánchez, views the proceedings as an attempt at political pressure. The outcome of the session showed that compromise remains out of reach, and public attention to the Koldo case continues to mount.
