The draws of the national Euromillones lottery continue to deliver big wins to residents of Spain. While the top prize in the latest draw went abroad, the mandatory additional draw “El Millón” made a participant from a small Spanish municipality one million euros richer. This time, fortune smiled on a winner from the province of Salamanca.
During the draw held on Friday, December 12, the main jackpot of 17 million euros was won in Ireland. In Spain, there were no first- or second-category winners. Nevertheless, a ticket purchased in Zaragoza brought its holder a third-category prize of €30,745.35.
However, the largest win on Spanish territory that evening went to the holder of the “El Millón” code — WJM56128. The winning ticket was sold in the municipality of Castellanos de Moriscos, located in the province of Salamanca. This picturesque town in the comarca of La Armuña is known for its 15th-century Church of Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, a site of cultural interest, as well as for its proximity to the provincial capital.
The winning combination in the main draw was the numbers 7, 25, 30, 37, and 41, along with the “stars” 5 and 11. Since the top prize was won, the jackpot for the next draw, which will take place on Tuesday, December 16, will return to the starting amount of 17 million euros.
For reference, Euromillones is one of the most popular transnational lotteries in Europe. It was launched on February 13, 2004, at the initiative of lottery operators from Spain, France, and the United Kingdom. Over time, six more countries joined: Portugal, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, and Luxembourg. Draws are held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. There is also an additional draw called “El Millón” exclusively for Spanish players, which guarantees a new millionaire in the country with every draw. As of 2024, the jackpot is capped at 250 million euros.

Back then, a Barcelona local won a million euros in the Euromillones lottery thanks to the additional El Millón draw. The main jackpot in that round went to a player from France, while Spain also saw several other major prizes awarded.
