Six Shakira concerts in Madrid as ticket demand breaks records

How many concerts will Shakira perform in Madrid this September

Shakira has added more concerts in Madrid due to soaring demand. Organizers are preparing a unique show with cutting-edge technology. This event could elevate the city’s status on Europe’s music map.

In September, Madrid will become the only European city to host a series of Shakira concerts as part of her global Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour. The decision to increase the number of shows from three to six was made due to unprecedented demand for tickets, sparking lively discussions among fans and music industry experts. For Spain’s capital, this is not only an opportunity to reinforce its presence in the Latin American music market, but also a chance to showcase new standards in organizing large-scale events.

Organizers have announced that all concerts will take place at the purpose-built Macondo Park within the Iberdrola Music venue. According to RUSSPAIN.COM, this event could become one of the most significant cultural highlights in the city in recent years. The venue can accommodate up to 65,000 people, with the main stage designed for 50,000 spectators, including 20,000 in the fan zone near the stage. For the first time in Europe, a unique immersive screen system imported from China will be used for the show, aiming to create a fully immersive concert experience.

New formats and records

As part of preparations for the performances, Shakira’s team, together with architect Agustín Pérez Torres, developed a space concept where the show will be complemented by additional activities. For 12 hours each day, visitors can participate in dance workshops, visit a museum with the artist’s personal belongings, and enjoy special children’s zones organized with the help of her sons Milan and Shasha. This approach transforms the event from a regular concert into a full-fledged cultural festival, setting it apart from other music events in Spain.

Organizers do not rule out increasing the number of concerts if tickets continue to sell at the same fast pace. However, as representatives of Live Nation note, expanding the program is limited by the schedule—October is already booked with other events. In Madrid’s history, the record for the number of concerts still belongs to Bad Bunny, who held ten shows and sold half a million tickets in June. Now, Shakira aims to reach new milestones during her European residency.

Ticket sales and event details

Ticket sales will begin on March 24 with an exclusive online presale for registered users of Shakira’s official website. Then, on March 25, access will open for SMusic subscribers, and on March 26—for Live Nation customers. General sales start March 27 through Live Nation, Ticketmaster, and El Corte Inglés. According to organizers, ticket prices will be comparable to those for Madrid’s largest arenas, though exact amounts have not yet been disclosed.

The choice of Iberdrola Music as the venue has sparked debate among city officials. Some authorities voiced concerns about its suitability due to past issues with access and safety during Harry Styles concerts and Mad Cool festivals. However, representatives of Live Nation assure that all logistical and security matters have been resolved, and the venue is fully prepared to welcome tens of thousands of guests. Organizers emphasize that successful events of this scale require coordinated work from all city services.

Madrid and Latin American music

Hosting six Shakira concerts in Madrid highlights the city’s growing role as a magnet for leading Latin American artists. In addition, the capital is set to host ten Bad Bunny concerts and four Karol G shows at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in 2024. This influx of global stars is boosting competition among European cities for the right to stage major music tours.

Before her Madrid concerts, Shakira will perform in Rio de Janeiro at Copacabana Beach as part of Todo Mundo No Rio. This event traditionally attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators and is considered one of the largest in the world. According to Billboard, the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour has already become the highest-grossing for a Latin American artist, earning over $421 million and drawing more than 3.3 million attendees across 82 concerts.

In recent years, Madrid has increasingly become a stage for major music events. For example, in 2023 the capital hosted the final of Rosalía’s European tour, and in 2022 it held the largest Primavera Sound festival. Each time, these events spark discussions about new standards in organization, security, and technological solutions. Large-scale gatherings like these not only attract tourists but also drive the development of urban infrastructure, as industry experts point out.
