On Friday, residents of Spain can look forward to genuine summer warmth, despite the autumn calendar. Most regions will experience clear and calm weather, with temperatures rising above typical values for this time of year. It will be especially hot in the Guadalquivir valley, where the mercury could reach 32 degrees or higher. Meanwhile, in northern Galicia and along the southeastern coasts, nighttime temperatures will drop slightly, and light frosts are possible in the Pyrenees.
However, not all areas will be cloudless. In the Balearic Islands—particularly Mallorca and Menorca—as well as along the Catalonian coastline, meteorologists warn of possible rain. In the morning, cloud cover will extend over the north of the country, eastern inland areas, and parts of the Alboran Sea and Balearics. After midday, clouds will form in the Andalusian mountains and the southeast, where brief showers cannot be ruled out. On the Canary Islands, especially the northern parts of the mountainous islands, overcast weather is also expected.
Winds on this day will generally be light, but moderate gusts are possible in certain areas, such as the strait between the mainland and Africa, as well as the Catalonian coast, the Valencian Community, and the Pityusic Islands. Winds in Cantabria and the Strait will blow from the east, while in Galicia—from the southwest. During midday, most of the country will see westerly winds. The Canaries will continue to experience moderate trade winds.
However, starting Saturday, the situation will begin to change. A storm, formerly known as hurricane Ex Gabriel, will approach the coast of Galicia, bringing rain, occasional thunderstorms, and strong gusts of wind, especially along the region’s coastline. No precipitation is expected elsewhere in the country, but cloud cover will increase, and temperatures will continue to rise: in some areas of Cantabria and along the Mediterranean coast, the air will warm up to 25–32 degrees.
Sunday is expected to be the most unsettled day. The Ex Gabriel storm will reach the western areas of the Iberian Peninsula, and rain will spread across almost the entire territory, with heavy downpours especially in Extremadura and western Andalusia. In Catalonia and northern parts of the Valencian Community, showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms. Very strong wind gusts are forecast in the western regions, and temperatures will remain unstable: in the east, the heat will persist, with some places once again seeing temperatures above 30 degrees.
