In the province of Castellón, officers from the National Police have arrested three individuals suspected of links to the extremist organization The Base. Among those detained is the alleged leader of the Spanish cell, who is already in custody. All three face charges of participation in a terrorist group, recruitment, ideological indoctrination and training for terrorist purposes, as well as illegal possession of weapons.
The investigation began in early 2025, when counterterrorism experts took notice of a local resident who exhibited a strong inclination toward radical beliefs and supported The Base’s ideology. Over time, authorities discovered that a tightly knit group of three had formed around him—each sharing extremely radical views and prepared to commit crimes. Members of the cell had already undergone tactical training, using military gear and practicing skills in environments simulating combat conditions.
Recruitment and propaganda
Investigators found that the suspects actively used social media to recruit new followers, distributed materials glorifying violence, and shared video content promoting the acceleration of radicalization. In recent months, the group’s rhetoric grew even more aggressive: its members openly called for violent acts and made no secret of their willingness to carry out attacks in support of their beliefs.
Particular attention was drawn to the fact that the leader of the Spanish cell maintained direct contact with the founder of The Base. Recently, he called for the creation of new cells worldwide and for orchestrating attacks aimed at destabilizing Western democratic institutions. The rise in radicalization and stockpiling of weapons forced police to carry out an operation to detain the suspects.
Searches and Seized Items
During five searches conducted in Castellón, authorities discovered nine weapons, including two firearms, ammunition, more than twenty knives and machetes, as well as a full set of military gear used for training. In addition, materials and documents promoting the ideology of accelerationism and supremacy, The Base propaganda, neo-Nazi symbols, and literature praising other terrorist organizations were seized.
The operation was led by the General Information Directorate with support from the local Castellón police unit. Europol analysts also participated in the investigation. All actions were coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court, and the decision to remand the group leader in custody was made by a judge of Central Investigative Court No. 6.
Structure of The Base
The Base, founded in 2018, aims to establish white supremacy through terrorist activities. To achieve this, it builds a network of autonomous combat cells whose members undergo military training and prepare for attacks. The Base operates on a decentralized structure, bringing together small groups committed to ideas of supremacy, accelerating radical change, and gearing up for a race war.
