A serious accident involving two trucks carrying tires and polymer materials occurred at night on the A-3 highway in the province of Cuenca. The crash happened around 6:48 a.m. at kilometer 170 near the municipality of Honrubia, in the direction of Madrid. After the collision, both vehicles caught fire, resulting in a complete closure of traffic on this section of the road.
According to Castilla-La Mancha’s emergency service 112, both drivers were injured. One of them, a 33-year-old man, was treated at the scene and transported to Villarrobledo Hospital by an ambulance crew. The second driver was also injured, but his personal details are not being disclosed. Firefighters from Motilla del Palancar remain at the site battling the blaze, alongside emergency service personnel and medical crews.
Restrictions and detour
Due to the accident, traffic on the A-3 toward Madrid is completely blocked. An alternative route has been set up: the detour starts at kilometer 175, near the Cañada Juncosa exit, and continues until vehicles can return to the main road in Honrubia. The Civil Guard is present on site, managing the flow of traffic and ensuring safety along the temporary route.
Incident details
Both trucks were carrying potentially hazardous cargo — one was loaded with car tires, the other with a polymer material (polyethylene). After the collision, both vehicles burst into flames, which complicated rescue operations and required additional fire crews to be deployed. A resuscitation team, emergency medical services, and several support ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
