The morning began with an unpleasant surprise for many Madrid residents: a technical malfunction on metro line 9 completely halted train service between several stations. As a result, hundreds of passengers were stranded on platforms, and a real crush developed near Concha Espina station.
The incident was caused by the sudden breakdown of one of the trains, which stopped right at Colombia station. Metro staff had to urgently remove the train from the tracks, a process that took about forty minutes. During this time, more and more people, rushing to work or school, crowded onto the platforms.
Passengers heading north had to leave the station and walk part of their route. Trains moving in the opposite direction were forced to turn back to avoid getting stuck behind the disabled train. The disruption affected several key stations: Plaza de Castilla, Duque de Pastrana, Pío XII, Colombia, and Concha Espina. The rest of the line continued to operate as usual.
A wave of outrage erupted on social media in the morning. Users complained about frequent metro disruptions, especially during rush hour, and expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of service. Many pointed out that despite ongoing promises to improve infrastructure, such situations are happening more and more often.
