Two Injured After Car Collides with Truck on M-50 in Getafe

Truck Carrying 20 Tons of Beer Overturns, Traffic Paralyzed

A beer truck overturned on the M-50 in Getafe, and a car crashed into its trailer. Two people were injured, and one was hospitalized. Traffic was completely halted as emergency services responded.

The morning on the M-50 near Getafe began with a major traffic accident. A truck carrying a large shipment of beer suddenly lost control and swerved off the road. The vehicle ended up partially overturned, spilling its cargo—about twenty tons of bottles and cans—across the highway.

Within minutes, a traffic jam formed at the scene, with movement brought to a complete standstill. At that moment, a car driving along the highway failed to react in time to the obstacle and crashed into the truck’s trailer. Both drivers were injured in the collision—one required hospitalization, while the other escaped with a fright and minor bruises.

Emergency response

Four fire brigades arrived promptly at the scene. Their main task was to secure the accident site: crews handled a fuel spill and began clearing beer crates scattered across the road. At the same time, officers from the Guardia Civil managed traffic and organized detours to prevent further accidents and ensure emergency services could work safely.

Firefighters thoroughly inspected both vehicles for potential fire hazards, paying special attention to the truck since some fuel had spilled onto the asphalt after the collision. Once the fire risk was eliminated, an extensive cleanup operation began — bottles, cans, and packs of beer had to be collected by hand to restore traffic as quickly as possible.

Aftermath of the accident

The incident caused a complete shutdown of traffic on the M-50 for several hours. Drivers were forced to find alternative routes, and long lines formed at approaches to the scene. Road crews and police worked intensively to minimize the impact and restore normal traffic flow as quickly as possible.

The injured truck driver was taken to Getafe Hospital for evaluation and medical assistance. He is in stable condition and not in any life-threatening danger. The driver of the passenger car sustained minor injuries and, after a medical checkup, was able to leave the scene on his own.

Accident details

According to preliminary reports, the accident was caused by the driver losing control of a truck transporting a large consignment of alcoholic beverages. After the vehicle veered off the roadway, it struck a barrier and overturned onto its side, completely blocking one lane. At that moment, a passenger car was traveling on the highway; its driver was unable to brake in time and crashed into the trailer.

As a result of the collision, the truck sustained severe damage and its contents were scattered across the entire width of the road. Not only firefighters and police, but also road service crews responded to the scene, manually collecting bottles and cans to clear the way for traffic.

In case you didn’t know, the transport company whose truck was involved in the accident specializes in delivering beverages throughout Madrid and the surrounding area. Its fleet has dozens of trucks running daily between warehouses and retail outlets. In recent years, the company has faced challenges on the road before, but incidents of this scale had not been recorded previously. Drivers undergo regular safety training, and vehicles are subject to mandatory technical inspections before each trip.
