The Vox party has once again outlined its priorities for the Valencian Community, emphasizing the urgent need to recover from the devastating effects of the autumn natural disaster. The issue of early elections has been pushed to the background, so as not to hinder the work of regional authorities or create further uncertainty for residents.
The party leadership, including Ignacio Garriga, who is responsible for government formation talks in the region, stressed that the most important thing now is to act quickly and help families who have lost their homes and property. Vox plans to push its coalition partners to take concrete actions in the social and economic fields to ensure real support for those affected.
During negotiations with the Partido Popular (PP), Vox representatives have not revealed any details, citing the need for caution. However, it is known that their key demands include tougher immigration policies, rejection of some EU environmental initiatives, and a review of the tax burden. Internal party discussions are happening behind closed doors, but Vox remains committed to continuing its previous agreements with the PP.
Leadership shake-up and new faces
Alongside negotiations in Valencia, the party underwent significant personnel changes. Vox announced that Óscar Fernández Calle will be its candidate in the upcoming elections in Extremadura, replacing the previous contender, Ángel Pelayo Gordillo. Despite this replacement, Gordillo will take on a new role—he will lead the Vox faction in the Senate, where the party expects a significant strengthening of its position.
This decision came as a surprise to many, as Gordillo had long been a prominent figure in regional politics, and now his experience will be put to use at the national level. Meanwhile, Fernández Calle, who holds a medical degree and leadership experience in Cáceres, is expected to bring fresh momentum to the campaign.
Political initiatives and new challenges
Amid internal changes, Vox continues to push its initiatives in parliament. In particular, the party is preparing a bill to ban the wearing of face-covering Islamic headgear in public spaces. According to Vox representatives, this measure is necessary to ensure security and protect secular values.
At the same time, Vox has openly criticized its partners from PP, accusing them of inconsistency on environmental and European policy issues. Party representatives believe that the People’s Party often changes its rhetoric depending on the political climate, which could negatively affect voters’ trust.
Overall, Vox’s strategy in the coming months is based on combining a firm stance on key issues with a willingness to engage in dialogue with its allies. The party aims to strengthen its position both regionally and nationally, focusing on topics relevant to society and responding quickly to current challenges.
