Rumors about a possible wedding between Nati Abascal’s younger son, Luis Medina, and his beloved, the aristocrat Clara Caruana, had been circulating for several months. The mystery has been resolved: the couple have indeed made their relationship official. The ceremony took place on November 14 in complete privacy, a conscious decision made by the couple following a challenging period in the life of the Marqués de Villalba. He was recently acquitted in the high-profile ‘mask case’ involving alleged fraud in the procurement of medical supplies for the Madrid City Hall at the height of the pandemic, while his business partner received a prison sentence. Wanting to avoid media attention, Luis and Clara chose a quiet ceremony over lavish celebrations, to formalize his bond with the woman who stood by him through the most difficult times.
No details or photographs of the ceremony or the guests—whose number was limited to only the closest circle—have leaked to the press. All that is known is that the newlyweds are absolutely delighted. This modesty stands in stark contrast to the grand wedding of his older brother, Rafa Medina, and Laura Vecino, which took place fifteen years ago. Back then, around 700 guests gathered at the Tavera Hospital Palace in Toledo, one of the jewels of the House of Medinaceli, to congratulate members of one of Spain’s most distinguished and wealthy aristocratic dynasties.
The romantic relationship between Luis Medina and Clara Caruana, who is ten years his junior, began during the pandemic. However, the aristocrat only introduced his partner to society in October 2023 at the wedding of his cousin, the Duchess of Medinaseli, Victoria de Hohenlohe. By then, their romance was no longer a secret—paparazzi had spotted the couple back in December 2022 during a romantic weekend in Seville. Fully integrated into her partner’s family, Clara Caruana was already sharing a meal with Luis and his mother, Nati Abascal, in June last year. After a long period out of the public eye, the couple recently reappeared together at a charity event organized in collaboration with the clinic where Clara works.
Luis Medina holds the title Marqués de Villalba, which was passed down to him by his older brother in 2021. His wife also boasts noble lineage: she is the granddaughter of the Barón de San Petrillo and the Marquesa de Villamayor de Santiago. But behind the aristocratic titles lies an impressive professional background. Clara Caruana earned degrees in nursing and law from prestigious universities in Madrid, followed by a master’s from IESE business school. She has worked as a nurse in Spain and the United Kingdom, but ultimately focused on healthcare management. Today, she holds a leadership position at the oncology center of the University Clinic of Navarra in Madrid.
