Moving from a big city to a tiny village is a step few dare to take. But one young couple from Barcelona took the risk and left behind the urban rush for a life surrounded by mountains and nature, choosing a settlement with just ten residents. Their story has become an eye-opener for thousands on social media, as they not only gave up familiar comforts, but also decided to live without a personal car.
In their new reality, there are no familiar shops, pharmacies, or beauty salons. Everything they need must be planned in advance: food and fresh bread are delivered once a week by traders in vans. If they forget to buy something, they have to wait until the next week. Medical care is limited as well: a doctor visits the village only on schedule, so in emergencies, they have to rely on luck or help from neighbors.
Despite the obvious inconveniences, the couple says life here is filled with peace and a true sense of freedom. Instead of traffic and noise, there’s fresh air and a chance to go for a walk or ride a bike around the area. Everyday tasks require some ingenuity: to shop or visit the post office, they walk or cycle to the neighboring town, which is about five kilometers away.
Not having a car imposes certain limitations on social life as well. If there is a holiday or an important event in a neighboring village, getting there without a car is nearly impossible—unless a local offers you a ride. Still, residents say that these very difficulties bring people closer, creating a special atmosphere of support and mutual assistance.
The couple’s experiment sparked a lively discussion online. Many wonder whether it’s possible in today’s world to give up familiar comforts for the sake of living in harmony with nature and at a slower pace. Their story proves that even in Spain’s most sparsely populated regions, you can find your home—if you’re open to change and able to appreciate the simple things.
