Young Woman from Toledo Chooses Life in a Motorhome Over Renting

Why a Spanish Woman Gave Up Her Apartment for Life on the Road: A Digital Nomad’s Journey to Freedom

A woman from Toledo traded her apartment for a motorhome, prioritizing mobility and saving money. She shares the advantages and challenges of living on the road. Find out how she manages to work while traveling.

With housing prices and inflation constantly on the rise, many young Spaniards find it impossible to afford their own apartment. However, not everyone is willing to follow the traditional path. One such person is a 31-year-old resident of Toledo, who decided to completely change her lifestyle and move into a camper van measuring just 12 square meters.

Her decision wasn’t spontaneous: the idea of living on the road came to her as a teenager after seeing others travel the world in their own homes on wheels. Over time, that dream became reality — first, she bought and converted a small van, and later, after selling it, she purchased a used motorhome, which has now become her only home.

Contrary to popular belief, this lifestyle isn’t always cheaper than the traditional one. A well-equipped camper van costs a significant amount, enough to rent an apartment in a small town. But for her, the freedom to travel and not be tied to one place mattered more. She emphasizes that her home on wheels is better equipped than many rented rooms.

Life in a motorhome requires constant planning: laundry depends on the availability of laundromats, and water and electricity supplies must be replenished in advance. To find suitable places, she uses special apps. She addresses safety issues with cameras and simple tricks, such as securing the door with a strap. In addition, she has insurance that covers not only the vehicle, but also herself and her dog.

Work and travel: how to combine them

Her professional life is connected to music—she sings in an orchestra and often performs at festivals in different cities. This schedule fits perfectly with a mobile lifestyle. The rest of the time, she works remotely and grows her social media accounts, where she has already gathered tens of thousands of followers and receives collaboration offers.

In six months, she managed to travel across almost all of Spain and even part of Portugal. Her next plans include a trip to Marrocos (Morocco). This experience has not only broadened her horizons, but also helped her overcome loneliness and stereotypes. Despite negative comments online, she says she has become much more creative and now inspires others to make changes.

Tips for aspiring nomads

For those considering this step, she advises first renting a campervan or motorhome to try out this lifestyle, even if only for a short period. According to her, a few months on the road brought her more experiences and skills than many years of conventional living. This choice demands courage, but it opens up new horizons and gives a true sense of freedom.
