Baroness Carmen ‘Tita’ Cervera has decided to offer her famous yacht ‘Mata Mua’ (Mata Mua) for commercial charter. This vessel, named after the most renowned painting by Paul Gauguin from her collection, has long been a symbol of her summer retreats. The decision may be linked to the baroness’s financial situation, as she has previously spoken about periods of monetary difficulties and the need to mortgage her properties.
Currently, the baroness is facing difficulties selling two luxury properties: a Mediterranean mansion in Mallorca and a villa in an exclusive area of Marbella. Against this backdrop, renting out her floating residence—where many memorable moments of her life have taken place—appears to be a means of generating additional income and optimizing the costs of maintaining such a valuable asset.
The rental of the vessel is managed by Lamprell Marine, a company based in Mallorca. The weekly charter price for the nearly 40-meter yacht during the high season is €60,000, plus 21% VAT. In the low season, the rate drops to €50,000. In addition to the base fee, the renter must pay a deposit of 35% of the charter cost. This amount covers variable expenses such as fuel, food, beverages, and port charges. The captain manages this fund and, upon completion of the trip, provides a detailed report, returning any balance or issuing an invoice for additional charges.
“Mata Mua” is a classic motor yacht, launched in 1993 and designed by the renowned Diana Yacht Design studio. The baroness acquired it in the early 2000s, and the last major renovation took place in 2017. The yacht features bright and spacious interiors, while the large deck areas are ideal for relaxation and entertainment. It can travel over 3,000 nautical miles without refueling, maintaining a comfortable cruising speed of 10 knots and reaching a maximum speed of 12 knots.
The yacht can accommodate up to nine guests in four luxurious cabins: a master cabin, a VIP cabin, a double cabin, and another with two single beds. Guests have access to spacious lounges, a sundeck, gym, jacuzzi, and a convenient platform for direct access to the sea. A crew of five is on hand to fulfill any requests. For active water recreation, there are water skis, paddleboards, a towable sofa, and equipment for diving and snorkeling.
Over the years, the yacht has not only been a place for luxurious Mediterranean voyages but was also at the center of an unfortunate incident. In 2014, while anchored off the coast of Ibiza, inspectors from the Tax Agency and Civil Guard boarded to deliver a notice of inspection. The baroness considered this visit humiliating and later sent a letter demanding an explanation addressed to the head of the government. However, this episode could not overshadow the many pleasant memories and happy holidays at sea.
