Every week, the hope for a lucky break drives thousands to test their fate in the classic lottery. For some, it’s a chance to fulfill a cherished dream; for others, an opportunity to boost their finances; and for many, it’s simply the thrill and excitement of the game. Every Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, players across the country wait for six lucky numbers that could transform their lives overnight.
Last Thursday, fortune smiled especially wide on one participant from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. There, a ticket purchased at the lottery office on Olof Palme Street, 49, brought its owner an incredible windfall of €1,144,467. That lucky slip turned an ordinary person into a millionaire in just one night.
But the draw’s generosity didn’t end there. Luck also favored three other players, each receiving a second-tier prize. By matching five main numbers and the bonus, each winner pocketed €61,863.08. The winning tickets were sold in Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), Girona, and Portugalete (Biscay).
The winning numbers drawn on October 23 were: main numbers – 07, 15, 17, 34, 47, 49. The bonus number (Complementario) was 40, and the refund number (Reintegro) was 05. In the additional Joker game, the winning combination was 6 871 514.
Interestingly, La Primitiva is one of the oldest lotteries in the world, with its origins dating back to 18th-century Spain. The first draw took place on December 10, 1763, during the reign of Charles III. The lottery was initiated by the Marquess of Esquilache, the Minister of Finance, who aimed to boost the state treasury without imposing new taxes on the population. Over its long history, the lottery was suspended and changed formats several times, but was revived in its current form in 1985 and has remained one of the country’s major lottery events ever since.
Participating in the draw is simple: you need to pick 6 unique numbers between 1 and 49. In addition, the system automatically assigns each ticket a bonus number and a refund number from 0 to 9. To win the main jackpot in the special category, you must guess all 6 main numbers and the refund number. For an extra euro, you can activate the ‘Joker’ option, where a 7-digit number is randomly generated. Matching the winning ‘Joker’ combination exactly awards a prize of 1 million euros.
