In 2025, the updated Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d 4Matic debuted on the Spanish market. The exterior of the crossover has retained its signature look, but a keen eye will spot some changes: the headlights are narrower, the rear lights are now connected by a decorative strip, and the bumpers have new shapes depending on the trim. The Avantgarde version emphasizes elegance, while the AMG Line highlights a sportier character. Like other modern models from the brand, the rear features decorative—rather than functional—exhaust tips, which has sparked mixed reactions among car enthusiasts.
Engineers have also improved aerodynamics: the drag coefficient has been reduced from 0.31 to 0.29. The car’s dimensions have changed only slightly—the length increased by 6 centimeters, the wheelbase grew by 15 millimeters, height decreased by 4 millimeters, and the width remains unchanged.
The new GLC’s interior follows the traditional Mercedes-Benz style, with high-quality materials, precise assembly, and modern electronics. The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch vertical multimedia touchscreen. The equipment list also includes a head-up display. However, some steering wheel controls aren’t always precise, and the touch buttons may take some getting used to. Nonetheless, the system interface becomes intuitive after a short adaptation period.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter diesel engine producing 197 hp and 440 Nm of torque. It is complemented by a 48-volt mild hybrid system that adds another 23 hp, improving performance and reducing fuel consumption. As a result, the GLC 220d 4Matic has been awarded the DGT Eco environmental label, which is important for urban driving in Spain. The average fuel consumption is about 6.2 liters per 100 km, and on the highway at 120 km/h it can achieve around 5 liters. The range exceeds 1,000 kilometers, making the vehicle convenient for long-distance trips.
The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. For off-road drives, Agility Control air suspension, a drive mode selection system (Efficiency, Comfort, Sport, Off-road), and 4Matic all-wheel drive are available. However, the model is primarily designed for paved roads rather than serious off-roading.
Driving impressions are positive: the driver’s seat and rear seats offer a high level of comfort even on long journeys. The engine is notably quiet and fuel-efficient, which is especially valuable for a crossover of this class. The interior space has increased: the boot capacity is now 600 liters versus the previous 550, and the recline of the rear seat backrest makes trips even more comfortable for passengers. Good cabin sound insulation also helps the GLC stand out among its competitors.
However, there are some drawbacks. In certain units, there may be extraneous noise near the center console, which is related to assembly features. While this issue does not affect safety or comfort, it can distract the driver.
In Spain, the price of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 220d 4Matic starts at €64,642. There is also an installment purchase program available with monthly payments from €635.41. This new model is aimed at those who value comfort, modern technology, and efficiency, without wanting to compromise on premium quality.
