On the Costa Brava coastline, within the boundaries of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, lies an almost secret cove whose landscapes resemble the Adriatic coast. This is Cala Jugadora—a small, secluded beach near Cadaqués that has become a true haven for those who appreciate unspoiled nature, tranquility, and snorkeling.
This cove, stretching only about fifteen meters, is well protected by rocky formations and juniper thickets. Its setting creates an intimate and peaceful atmosphere even at the height of the summer season. The absence of tourist infrastructure and limited space only enhance the sense of seclusion. Additionally, the natural barrier of rocks shelters the cove from the strong northern Tramontana wind typical of Cap de Creus, keeping the waters here surprisingly calm.
The sea at Cala Jugadora impresses with its crystal-clear waters and a palette ranging from deep blue to emerald green. This spot is a real paradise for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Beneath the surface, you can observe schools of salpa, silvery sargo, and other fish darting among the rocks. The seabed is covered in posidonia meadows, home to starfish, sea urchins, and even small moray eels, adding an element of mystery to underwater exploration.
The bay is part of the Cap de Creus integral nature reserve, one of the most protected areas in Catalonia. Its unique landscape has been shaped by winds that can reach speeds of up to 150 km/h and by marine erosion. These harsh yet picturesque vistas once inspired such geniuses as Salvador Dalí and the writer Josep Pla. The park’s flora includes endemic species, such as seseli de Farreny, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Visitors are urged to strictly follow the rules: do not stray from marked trails and do not leave any litter.
To reach Cala Jugadora, you first need to arrive in Cadaqués, and then take the winding GI-614 road toward the Cap de Creus lighthouse. From the lighthouse, a footpath leads to the bay. For hiking enthusiasts, there is an alternative route—a seven-kilometer coastal trail. The best time to visit is early morning, as well as in June and September, when the water temperature is comfortable and there are considerably fewer tourists.
