Ahead of one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments, the Ryder Cup, which will take place in 2031 at the Camiral courses in Caldes de Malavella, the resort town of Lloret de Mar is launching an active campaign to strengthen its position as a key golf tourism destination. The municipality aims to become the main base for accommodating athletes and visitors to the tournament, offering not only lodging but also a comprehensive leisure experience just minutes away from the competition venue.
Lloret de Mar’s infrastructure is fully equipped to welcome a large influx of guests. The city offers hotel accommodations for more than 29,000 people, including adults-only hotels, family resorts, complexes with specialized services for athletes, and boutique hotels. It is worth noting that for 20 years, the Catalan Tourism Agency has granted Lloret de Mar the status of “Destino de Turismo Deportivo” (Sports Tourism Destination), attesting to its high level of service and first-class sports and leisure facilities.
In parallel with the development of golf tourism, the city is actively promoting the concept of the “Healthy Tourist Destination” (Destino Turístico Saludable). This is supported by a unique natural environment: nine kilometers of coastline with smoke-free beaches, picturesque coastal paths (caminos de ronda), and vast forest areas that cover 68% of the municipality. For water sports enthusiasts, special sea routes have been set up for open water swimming, making Lloret de Mar an ideal place to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
The resort’s strategy goes beyond just sports. Guests are offered a rich gastronomic program, cultural events, and wellness services. This diversity attracts not only golfers themselves but also their companions, ensuring a full and engaging holiday for all categories of tourists. Proximity to other well-known golf courses on the Costa Brava coastline makes Lloret de Mar a strategically convenient center for golf enthusiasts all year round.
To realize these ambitious plans, Lloret Turismo, together with the private sector, has developed a comprehensive action plan. It includes targeted online promotion campaigns and international promotional events. The main goal is not just to attract tourists during the Ryder Cup, but to create a long-term legacy by establishing Lloret de Mar’s reputation as a leading golf resort on the Costa Brava.
