An 18-year-old woman from Badalona died on Saturday after a falling rock critically injured her at Gorg Blau, a natural pool in Sadernes, in Girona’s Alta Garrotxa region. The incident occurred at around 15:30 in the municipality of Montagut i Oix. Emergency services, including the Bombers de la Generalitat and the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), were dispatched after the alert. The young woman suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest after the impact and was airlifted in critical condition to Hospital Josep Trueta de Girona. Medical staff initially managed to stabilize her, but her injuries proved fatal. She died later that afternoon.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Officers attended the site in Montagut i Oix to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. Investigators will examine how the rock came loose and what led to the fatal injury.
