An 85-year-old man has been arrested in Madrid after a 47-year-old woman died inside their shared home in Arganzuela. Police are examining a possible strangulation and a dispute over whether she could remain in the property.
An 85-year-old man is in police custody after a 47-year-old woman was found dead inside a home in Madrid's Arganzuela district. She had signs of violence and may have been strangled. Investigators are examining whether a dispute over her continued stay in the property came before her death.
The man himself raised the alarm. Shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, he called his son and said he had just committed “un hecho grave”. His son contacted the authorities. The Sala CIMACC 091 then passed the information to emergency units.
The incident was reported at a property on calle Ferrocarril, 30, near Madrid’s Delicias station, according to multiple reports on the case.
Police officers from the Grupo de Atención al Ciudadano (GAC) went to calle Ferrocarril, 30, with the Policía Municipal and medical teams. The address is a short distance from Renfe de Delicias. The man was waiting inside and opened the door for the officers. Reports cited by El Confidencial said the Policía Nacional confirmed the arrest.
Inside, officers found the woman on the floor in cardiorespiratory arrest.
They began resuscitation attempts before medical teams from Summa 112 arrived. The woman was later pronounced dead. Luis Serrano of Emergencias 112 said she had signs of violence and that strangulation was a possible cause. The autopsy must establish what happened.
The case has not been publicly classified as gender violence or feminicide. The available reports describe an investigation into a violent death, while the motive and final legal qualification remain pending.
The woman and the detainee lived together, but they were not a couple. She was of Asian origin and was described as the man's former daughter-in-law.
