Airstream has launched the World Traveler 17RB, a 5.2-meter caravan designed to offer more than a typical compact trailer. It weighs 1,430 kg empty and has a maximum authorized mass of 1,580 kg, making it suitable for towing by most mid-sized SUVs and crossovers, as well as compact pickups. The model targets couples and solo travelers seeking a premium experience without the bulk or complexity of larger caravans.
The 17RB belongs to Airstream’s shorter, lighter World Traveler family, which European caravan coverage positions below the company’s larger International models. Promobil describes the World Traveler 17 and 22 as simpler and significantly lighter than more extensively equipped models. The shorter versions use Truma-Combi heating, while Alde hydronic systems feature in European International models and some larger World Traveler configurations. That positioning makes the line more compact and accessible within Airstream’s range, while keeping it firmly in the premium segment.
The exterior follows Airstream’s iconic design language, with polished, riveted aluminum panels and a rounded, aerodynamic silhouette that helps reduce drag on the road. Airstream’s European caravans retain double-wall aluminum construction, with insulation between the inner and outer shells. Promobil reports approximately 40 mm of compressed mineral-wool insulation between those skins and 40 mm of rigid-foam insulation in the floor of the European models it discusses. Opposite the kitchen, a compact wet bath combines a toilet and shower, allowing travelers to be independent of campsite facilities. Standard equipment also includes a 24-inch smart TV and JBL sound system, with storage under the seats and in overhead cabinets. Climate control comes from a ducted air-conditioning system and a combined heating and hot-water unit.
For off-grid travel, the World Traveler 17RB can be equipped with a 200-watt rooftop solar system and a 2.5 kWh lithium battery pack. Together, they provide energy autonomy for extended stays away from electrical hookups.
