New benefits in Spain up to €1,795 for families with special needs children. Starting May 19, families with children requiring special educational support can apply for state assistance. The maximum benefit is €1,795. The new regulations apply to children with disabilities, autism, ADHD, severe disorders, and high intellectual ability.

Starting May 19, 2026, Spain will begin accepting applications for state benefits for families raising children with special educational needs. The decision by the Ministry of Education concerns families with children with disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, severe behavioral or communication disorders, or high intellectual abilities.

The maximum amount of assistance can reach €1,795 and is intended to cover expenses for tuition, meals, transportation, boarding accommodation, educational materials, as well as specialized pedagogical or language rehabilitation sessions. To receive the benefit, not only an official diagnosis is required, but also confirmation of the need for special support, along with full compliance with all conditions specified in the new program.

Who can qualify for the benefit

Children with confirmed disabilities, autism, ADHD, severe behavioral or communication disorders, or high intellectual abilities are eligible for the assistance. Important: a diagnosis alone is not enough — the family must provide official documents confirming the need for support and compile a complete set of paperwork. Errors or incomplete data may result in rejection.

The child must be enrolled in a specialized institution, a class for special needs children, or a regular school with the appropriate permission. The minimum age is 2 years by the end of 2025, and for children with high abilities — from 6 years old.

How to apply and deadlines

Applications are accepted only online — through the Ministry of Education's electronic platform. Submissions will open on May 19, 2026, at 08:00 and close on September 10, 2026, at 15:00. To apply, you will need to provide reports from specialists on educational orientation or disability, and for children with autism — a medical certificate from a public clinic.

If the family is applying for payment for pedagogical or language rehabilitation sessions, additional specialist reports, documents from the educational inspectorate, and information about the center or professional conducting the sessions are required.

Payment amounts and conditions

The amount depends on the type of support and the child’s individual needs. For example, up to €862 for education, up to €617 for intercity transport, up to €574 for meals, up to €1,795 for boarding school accommodation, up to €308 for city transport, up to €442 for weekend transport, up to €913 for rehabilitation, and also up to €913 for children with high abilities. Additionally, a fixed subsidy of €400 is provided.

Payments depend on family income and assets: for 2026, the threshold starts at €12,534 per family member and goes up to €36,089 for families of five. If the child has a motor disability above 65%, transport expenses may be increased by 50%.

Context and significance

The introduction of new benefits is part of the government policy to support families with special-needs children and reduce the financial burden on parents. It is important to note that similar support measures are already affecting the social sphere: for example, a recent decision by the Supreme Court of Spain allowed the combination of a disability pension with benefits for citizens over 52 years of age, which was discussed in detail in the article on new opportunities for families with disabilities.

According to Talent24h, submitting documents on time and carefully complying with all requirements significantly increases the chances of receiving the payment. For many families, this support becomes a critically important part of the budget and makes it possible to provide children with access to necessary educational and medical services.
