Theatrical Success: 'When Frank Met Carlitos' Attracted 160 Thousand Spectators. Argentina continues to be swept up by the excitement around the play 'Cuando Frank conoció a Carlitos'. The production, centered on an imagined meeting between Gardel and Sinatra, has already drawn over 160 thousand viewers and earned a series of prestigious awards.

In Buenos Aires, the play "Cuando Frank conoció a Carlitos" continues its successful run, quickly becoming one of the country’s most notable theatrical events. The production, dedicated to an imaginary meeting between Carlos Gardel and a young Frank Sinatra in New York in 1934, has already attracted more than 160,000 spectators and amassed an impressive list of awards.

The plot centers on a hypothetical encounter between two legends—Gardel, already an acclaimed global artist, and Sinatra, who at the time was only 19 years old. The authors imagine how a friendship might have developed between them despite their age and language differences. On stage, the characters discuss women, friends, their childhood neighborhoods, gambling, and even aspects of lunfardo, performing Gardel’s famous songs in original style and in two languages.

"Cuando Frank conoció a Carlitos" has received acclaim not only from the public but also from the professional community. The play has been awarded the Hugo Prize, the theatrical "Martín Fierro," received 13 ACE Award nominations, and was recognized as a cultural interest by the city’s legislative authority. In addition, it won prizes for best script and set design from the Argentores, María Guerrero, and Teatros del Mundo juries.

The main roles are performed by Oscar Lajad, Lucas Gerson, and Antonella Misenti. The project is produced by Héctor Cavallero and directed by Natalia del Castillo. The music is provided by the Aeropuertos Argentina orchestra, with arrangements by Nico Posse. Tickets are available through Plateanet and at the theater box office. Performances run in the evenings from Wednesday to Sunday, with two evening shows on Saturdays.

Theatrical productions dedicated to iconic figures of the 20th century regularly attract interest in Spanish-speaking countries. For example, the attention to historical events and their impact on culture was discussed in the article about how the episode with Charo López in 1982 became a turning point for Spanish television. Such projects offer a new perspective on well-known artists and their era.

For reference: Carlos Gardel is considered one of the main symbols of Argentine tango, and Frank Sinatra—one of the most influential figures in American pop culture of the 20th century. Their creative legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and audiences around the world.
