From this Monday, young people in Catalonia can apply for rental subsidies of up to €3,000 per year, as the Generalitat opens the application window for its latest housing support program. The measure targets residents aged up to 35 who hold a valid rental, room, or use contract for their main home in the region. Applicants must be officially registered at the address to qualify.
The amount of aid is determined by the proportion of income spent on rent. If the rental cost is up to 30% of household income, the subsidy covers 20% of the annual rent. For those spending between 30% and 40%, the support rises to 30%. If the rent equals or exceeds 40% of income, the aid reaches 40%, with a maximum of €3,000 and a minimum of €600 per year per property. In shared flats, the combined subsidies cannot exceed 60% of the total rent.
The program is set for two years, with a review after the first year to confirm continued eligibility. Any change of address during the subsidy period must be reported within 15 days. The maximum income allowed for the applicant's household is €36,279.32 for 2024. Rental price limits vary by location: up to €1,000 in the Barcelona metropolitan area, €750 in the rest of Barcelona province and Girona, €700 in Tarragona, and €600 in Lleida and Terres de l’Ebre. For single-parent families or those with a member with a recognized disability, the cap is €1,000 in Barcelona and €900 elsewhere in Catalonia.
For those renting a room, the maximum eligible rent is €450 in Barcelona, €350 in the rest of the province, €400 in Girona, €350 in Tarragona, and €300 in Lleida and Terres de l’Ebre. Contracts between relatives are not accepted, and all applicants must be named on the rental or room contract at the time of application.
Applications should be submitted primarily through the Generalitat's online portal. If this is not possible, local housing offices and social housing mediation networks are available. The application period runs from June 29, 2026, at 9:00, until July 10, 2026, at 14:00. Required documents include identification, proof of residence, income statements for all household members, family book, rental contract, all rent receipts for 2026, and a standardized bank transfer form.
