You can now obtain a digital FNMT certificate without visiting government offices—just your smartphone and a few minutes of your time are enough. The official FNMT app for Android and iOS allows you to complete the entire process remotely, using your phone’s camera for video identification.
Previously, getting a certificate often turned into a bureaucratic quest: you had to appear in person at an office, such as SEPE, to verify your identity and receive a code for download. Now this step is in the past—you just need to download the FNMT app, select the video identification option, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
How the new service works
After installing the app, the user taps the 'Request Certificate' button, agrees to the terms, and enters their details: DNI number, first surname, and email address. A confirmation email is sent; then you'll need to enter your mobile number and the code received. The final stage is video identification: your smartphone’s camera captures your face and document to confirm your identity.
Before starting the procedure, it’s important to have your DNI ready—don’t look for it at the last moment, as the process requires clear and quick interaction with the camera.
Service cost
The video identification procedure is paid: a fee of €2.99 plus VAT is charged. Payment is made through the app after the video verification is complete. Only then is your application submitted for review.
What happens after submitting the application
Once video identification is completed and payment is confirmed, all that's left is to wait for an approval email. This email will contain a link to download the certificate. After downloading, the document can be used on any device for online operations with government services—without the need to visit offices in person.
