ElPozo Alimentación has acquired Tolvasa-Paasa, a well-established poultry company headquartered in Albacete, as it seeks to diversify its business. Announced in July 2026, the deal expands the operations of its parent, Grupo Fuertes, beyond their traditional focus on pork and marks the group’s entry into Spain’s poultry sector. It follows Grupo Fuertes’ earlier pursuit of Uvesa.
The acquisition includes Productos Alimenticios Albacete S.A. and Tolosa y Valiente S.A., the core companies behind Tolvasa-Paasa. Regulatory filings show that Grupo Corporativo Fuertes S.L. now holds exclusive control over these entities, extending its presence across poultry farming and processing, as well as meat preservation.
Strategic Shift
By integrating Tolvasa-Paasa, Grupo Fuertes adds operations that span feed supply and chicken farming, then continue through slaughter, processing and retail marketing. Tolvasa’s feed and livestock activities supply the raw material, while Paasa handles poultry treatment and meat processing. This integrated structure gives the group oversight across successive stages of production and supports traceability, a growing priority in the food industry.
The acquisition is part of Grupo Fuertes’ wider effort to diversify beyond its pork-centred business, which includes ElPozo Alimentación. In 2025, Tolvasa and Paasa reportedly recorded combined sales of about €140 million and net profit of nearly €6 million, based on company accounts reviewed by Murcia Plaza. Those figures cover the two companies’ combined activity for the year.
The purchase also places Grupo Fuertes within a broader consolidation trend in Spain’s poultry industry, where domestic and international groups have been acquiring specialist producers. Portugal’s Grupo Lusiaves, for example, acquired exclusive control of Pavo y Derivados, known as Padesa. In a September bulletin, Spain’s competition authority, the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia (CNMC), said ten concentration operations had been approved in the first phase. Its review of the Lusiaves-Padesa transaction described the overlaps in poultry and turkey, as well as prepared products and the egg market, as limited, with no portfolio effects.
Facilities and innovation
Tolvasa-Paasa operates in Casas Ibáñez and at the Romica industrial estate in Albacete, with facilities covering approximately 5,000 square meters. Its infrastructure includes specialized poultry-processing areas and production lines designed to support efficient operations and product quality.
Products are marketed under the Koko Roko brand through a vertically integrated model. It covers feed manufacturing and bird rearing, then carries production through slaughter and meat processing. Tolosa y Valiente focuses on feed production, while Paasa handles poultry slaughter and butchering.
New idea and food safety have been central to Tolvasa-Paasa’s recent strategy. The company participates in Delissafe, a research and development project co-financed by CDTI Novedad and European FEDER funds that aims to develop biotechnological tools for early pathogen detection in the agri-food chain.
Family Legacy and Local Impact
Founded in the 1930s, Tolvasa-Paasa traces its origins to a mill established by Rogelio Tolosa in Casas Ibáñez. Over the decades, the business evolved from flour and feed production into an integrated poultry operation, shaped by the partnership between the Tolosa and Valiente families.
The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Albacete recognized the company’s longstanding local presence and commitment to vertical integration in 2025, highlighting its family roots and evolution since 1933.
Grupo Fuertes followed the Tolvasa-Paasa acquisition with the purchase of Nutrave, a poultry-processing and marketing company headquartered in Bargas, Toledo. Together, the transactions extend the group’s poultry presence across Castilla-La Mancha and bring its poultry-related sales to more than €200 million, information from Murcia Plaza. Nutrave’s three founding families are expected to remain shareholders during the transition, while Grupo Fuertes plans to retain the workforce and continue operations. The expansion builds the group’s poultry business beyond its initial acquisition in Albacete.
For ElPozo and its parent group, the deal adds industrial capacity and a foothold in a sector increasingly shaped by consolidation. Control across multiple stages of the poultry supply chain gives Grupo Fuertes a broader platform as it expands beyond its traditional pork-centred activities.
