A violent clash between two families in Puente de Vallecas left a 60-year-old woman dead and another hospitalized. Four people have been detained, but the main suspect remains at large. Police are investigating the circumstances.

A deadly confrontation between two families in Madrid’s Puente de Vallecas district has resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman and the hospitalization of another family member. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday evening near the intersection of Sierra de la Estrella and Puerto Alto streets, escalated rapidly from a verbal dispute to a violent altercation involving knives.

According to police sources, the conflict began shortly after 8 p.m. and involved mostly women from both families, who are of Roma origin. The initial cause of the dispute is still under investigation, but early indications suggest it may be linked to tensions within a marriage. As the argument intensified, several participants suffered deep cuts and stab wounds.

Emergency services were called to the scene, but two women were transported to Hospital Gregorio Marañón by relatives before ambulances arrived. The 60-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Another woman, aged 43 and from the same family, remains hospitalized but is not in critical condition, according to police. Members of the rival family with injuries were treated at Hospital 12 de Octubre.

Police have detained four individuals in connection with the incident—two women, one aged 65, and two men aged 47 and 34. All face charges of participating in a violent brawl. However, the person believed to have fatally stabbed the deceased woman has not yet been apprehended. Officers have deployed additional security at both hospitals to prevent further incidents and to oversee the custody of those arrested.

The Homicide Group VI is leading the investigation to clarify the roles of each participant and to locate the main suspect. The authorities are also working to determine the precise motive behind the confrontation. This case follows a recent pattern of violent disputes in Madrid, including a separate stabbing in the Tetuán district that left a teenager in critical condition, as reported in another recent incident.

Family-related violence remains a significant concern in Spain’s urban areas, with police emphasizing the importance of rapid intervention in such cases. Puente de Vallecas, a densely populated district in Madrid, has seen several high-profile incidents in recent years, prompting increased patrols and community outreach efforts. The ongoing investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances and lead to further arrests if necessary. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events that led to this fatal outcome.
