Housing unions and major labor organizations have called a 24-hour strike after Congress rejected two housing decrees. The 11 November action will put rents, public housing, wages and the cost of living at the center of Spain's snap election campaign.

Congress rejected two housing decrees last Friday, only weeks before Spain votes in the early general election scheduled for 29 November. The decision has set the date for a nationwide housing strike: 11 November.

The Confederación de Sindicatos de Inquilinas, or CSI, agreed the 24-hour action with UGT, CCOO, CGT, Acción Social de Solidaridad Obrera and Co.Bas. Organizers have tied the protest to wages and the rising cost of living as well as housing conditions.

Euronews reported that the regional confederation CIG in Galicia also supports the call. ELA and LAB have backed it in the Basque Country.
