According to Axios, the White House waited ten days for a response from Tehran, hoping for progress in the talks. However, in a phone call with reporters, Trump made it clear that Iran's position had only complicated the situation. He declined to disclose details, but emphasized that he saw no grounds to continue the dialogue on the proposed terms.
Iran's Demands
Iranian state media reported that the official response focused on an immediate cessation of hostilities and guarantees that the fighting would not resume. As noted by Tasnim, an agency close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Tehran insists on lifting U.S. sanctions, a complete halt to military operations on all fronts, and transferring control of the Strait of Hormuz to the Iranian side.
Among the key conditions are the immediate lifting of the U.S. naval blockade following the signing of a memorandum of understanding, as well as the release of frozen Iranian assets. Iran also demands that restrictions on oil exports be lifted within 30 days of signing the memorandum. At the same time, no concessions on the nuclear program were mentioned in the response.
U.S. and Israeli Reaction
Trump reported that he discussed the situation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to him, the conversation was constructive, but the American leader emphasized that negotiations with Iran remain exclusively his responsibility.
Shortly after the phone conversation, Trump published a harsh statement on Truth Social, calling the Iranian response 'completely unacceptable.' At the same time, Iranian sources cited by the Tasnim agency stated that Tehran's proposals are not intended to please the American president but should reflect the interests and rights of the Iranian people.
Further steps and pressure in the US
The question of whether to continue negotiations or shift to forceful measures remains open. Trump did not specify whether he is ready for new rounds of dialogue or is considering a military scenario. Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent hardliner, publicly urged the White House to consider the possibility of a military operation, citing threats to international shipping and US allies in the Middle East.
Graham also recalled the suspended Project Freedom Plus operation, which was intended to ensure the safety of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz but was terminated less than two days after its launch.
