Gran Vía will close to traffic from 15:00 to 22:00 this Sunday, 4 October, for Madrid's Hispanidad parade. Metro entrances, bus routes, parking areas and several central streets will also face restrictions.

About 80,000 people are expected in central Madrid on Sunday 4 October for the Cabalgata de la Hispanidad. The parade will run from 18:00 to 22:00. Gran Vía will be fully closed to traffic from 15:00 to 22:00.

Municipal police and mobility agents will begin their special deployment in the morning. The Comunidad de Madrid describes the parade as a central event in the Hispanidad 2026 programme, which includes music, dance, theatre and circus performances with international participation.

Plan for a long disruption.

Several streets will close before midday. Some restrictions will stay in place until 23:59. Police can extend the measures or close more roads if crowd levels or security needs demand it. Authorities have told visitors to use public transport and avoid driving through the event zone.

The Hispanidad 2026 parade will feature 15 platforms, around 4,500 participants and representatives of 22 nationalities.

The first closures start at 07:00. They cover Reyes between Plaza de España and Maestro Guerrero, Maestro Guerrero itself and the side of Plaza de España between Plaza de José Moreno Villa and Ferraz.

At 09:00, Martín de los Heros will close between Ventura Rodríguez and Plaza de España. That section will remain closed until 22:00.

The main perimeter begins at 15:00. It includes San Leonardo, Princesa between Ventura Rodríguez and Plaza de España, part of Cuesta de San Vicente and Alcalá as far as Sevilla Metro station.

Alcalá between Plaza de Cibeles and Gran Vía will close in the direction of Plaza de España until 23:00. Telemadrid and other Madrid outlets reported the same advance traffic warnings.

More late restrictions will affect Reina between Clavel and Marqués de Valdeiglesias, Marqués de Valdeiglesias itself, Víctor Hugo and Barquillo between Infantas and Alcalá. Paseo de Camoens is also included. That stretch is normally closed to vehicles on weekends and public holidays.

The Cabalgata de la Hispanidad is part of the wider Hispanidad 2026 programme in Madrid, rather than an isolated street procession. The programme brings together music, dance, theatre and circus, with international participants forming part of the city’s cultural celebrations.

Parking controls will run alongside the road closures. From 07:00 to 23:59, they will affect Maestro Guerrero, San Leonardo, Juan Álvarez de Mendizábal and the Alcalá area near Gran Vía.

From 09:00, parking restrictions will reach Reina, Víctor Hugo, Marqués de Valdeiglesias, Infantas, Barquillo, Colmenares and Reyes. Plaza de España near number 3 will have restrictions from 05:00 to 15:00.

Public transport is the safer bet.

The nearest Metro stations include Callao, Sol, Gran Vía, Banco de España, Plaza de España, Santo Domingo, Ópera, Sevilla, Chueca and Noviciado.

Between 17:00 and 22:00, the Plaza de España entrance at Gran Vía 78 and the Callao entrance near number 39 will close. The Gran Vía accesses near numbers 23 and 28 will work as underground pedestrian crossings. The Montera lift and the entrance at number 48 will remain open.

EMT services will change too. Lines 25, 39 and 158 will be affected from 07:00 to 23:59. From 16:00 to 23:00, diversions will affect lines 001, 002, 1, 2, 3, 9, 25, 39, 44, 46, 52, 74, 75, 133, 138, 146, 147, 148, C1, C2, 158 and SE6.

Passengers using Cercanías can use Sol for lines C3 and C4. Recoletos serves C2, C7, C8 and C10. This disruption is separate from the weather restrictions described in an earlier report. 20minutos has also warned of pressure on central Madrid's transport network and advised people to avoid private-car journeys through the affected streets.

Drivers using municipal car parks may also face access problems. The affected facilities include Plaza del Rey, Pedro Zerolo, Santo Domingo, Plaza de España, Luna-Tudescos, Plaza del Carmen, Mostenses, Sevilla and Descalzas.

Taxi stops in San Leonardo, Barquillo, Isabel la Católica, Plaza del Carmen and Clavel will be affected. Stops at Plaza and Cuesta de Santo Domingo, Plaza de Isabel II and Marqués de Casa Riera are expected to remain available.

BiciMAD stations at Reyes 10, Plaza de España 16, Miguel Moya 1, Desengaño 4 and Tres Cruces will be temporarily unavailable.

Pedestrians can approach the route through Alcalá, Hortaleza, Montera, Fuencarral, Callao, Jacometrezo, San Bernardo, Plaza de España and Princesa.

Gran Vía will be occupied by the parade. With restrictions around it, driving through central Madrid can turn into a long detour. Trips unrelated to the area should use the M-30 and M-40.
