A large fire broke out shortly before 15:00 on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at La Junquera restaurant on Camino de la Fuente de la Junquera in Zaragoza. Around 30 diners and four employees evacuated as flames spread through the building. Smoke was visible from the Z-40 ring road.
A restaurant manager noticed that the air-conditioning system had stopped working and found flames in an electrical panel on the third floor. An attempt to extinguish the fire with a portable extinguisher failed as the blaze intensified and thick smoke filled the area. An electrical fault was considered a possible cause, but the origin had not been established.
Customers and employees left the premises without assistance. One person received medical attention for minor burns. Multiple emergency calls brought Zaragoza Fire Brigade crews to the scene with three water tankers, two aerial ladders, two command vehicles and two support trucks. Two ambulances were also dispatched. Policía Local de Zaragoza, Policía Local de Cuarte and Policía Nacional secured the area and closed the access road.
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and protect adjacent properties. Once the premises were secured, the National Police Scientific Brigade was expected to examine the site, establish the fire’s origin and prepare a formal report. The investigation was expected to begin within the following day or two.
Established in 1948, La Junquera is described as one of Zaragoza’s longstanding hospitality venues. It has several dining rooms, terraces, a grill, a barbecue area and a children’s zone. Separate fires were also reported in the province that day: firefighters attended a construction site for the Inditex group in the Malpica industrial area, while another fire was reported in a field near railway tracks in El Burgo de Ebro.
The incident drew attention to electrical safety and emergency preparedness in hospitality venues. Spanish businesses must comply with fire-safety requirements, including prevention measures and evacuation procedures. Diners and employees evacuated the restaurant, while emergency crews worked to contain the fire and limit risks to nearby properties.
