MG’s new 07 fastback has triggered a stampede in China, racking up over 31,000 confirmed orders in just ten days after a dramatic price cut. The car’s headline-grabbing range and features have fueled speculation about its future in Europe, but key details remain unresolved.
MG’s parent company, SAIC, says it received 31,000 firm orders for the MG 07 fastback within ten days of its launch in China. That number stands out even among established European brands. The rush followed a last-minute price cut: MG dropped the entry price by 20,000 yuan just before opening orders, turning the 07 from a niche model into a mainstream option.
Buyers moved quickly. MG reports that the first 10,000 orders came in less than two minutes after the system opened. Deliveries began within days, a pace that leaves little time for competitors to respond in China’s crowded EV and hybrid market.
The MG 07 officially began deliveries in China on September 1, 2026, marking a rapid transition from order intake to customer handover.
Price war and product strategy
The MG 07’s pricing is direct. The official range is 108,900 to 159,900 yuan, but a launch offer briefly dropped the starting price to 105,900 yuan—about €13,600 at current rates. This is a straight currency conversion and does not include European taxes, certification, shipping, or any local pricing MG might set if the car is sold in Spain or the EU.
MG’s plan is simple: beat rivals on price, then load up on features. The 07 is nearly 4.9 meters long, comes in seven versions (two plug-in hybrids and five full electrics), and has a fastback shape with a five-position electric spoiler. The top electric model claims 845 kilometers of CLTC range, using a 91 kWh CATL battery and 800-volt system. Lower-range versions use a 67 kWh battery and 400-volt setup, which matters for charging speed and real-world range.
Range claims and reality check
The much-discussed 1,745 kilometers is not the electric range. It’s the total certified range for the plug-in hybrid, combining a full battery and a tank of petrol under China’s CLTC test. The electric-only figure for that model is 245 kilometers, with a claimed 2.91 liters per 100 kilometers once the battery is empty. Fully electric versions are rated at 610, 650, or 845 kilometers CLTC, but these numbers are not directly comparable to Europe’s WLTP standard. MG has not published WLTP figures for the 07, so European buyers do not have real-world data yet.
The MG 07 was first unveiled to the public at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, 2026, which also marked the official start of order intake in China. According to industry sources, the 31,000+ orders were accumulated over the first 11 days, from August 21 to August 31, highlighting the model’s immediate popularity.
Features and equipment
The MG 07 is packed with technology. Inside, there’s a 15.6-inch central display, a Qualcomm 8295P processor, a 21-speaker sound system, and driver assistance powered by Momenta R7. Some versions add LiDAR, a 30-liter refrigerated compartment, and a zero-gravity front seat with ventilation, heating, and massage. Luggage space is generous: 697 liters in the rear, 168 liters under the front hood, and 109 liters under the boot floor. Not all features are standard—buyers need to choose higher trims for the full list.
European prospects and market limits
For now, the MG 07 is only available in China. As of September 2026, it is not listed in MG’s European lineup, and there is no confirmed launch date or price for Spain. MG’s European range includes electric sedans like the MG IM5, but the 07’s future outside China is undecided. Any talk of €13,600 prices or 1,745-kilometer ranges for Spain is speculation until MG completes European certification and sets local pricing.
The MG 07’s launch shows how price cuts and fast delivery can drive demand in a crowded market. The approach is similar to recent moves in battery-powered transport, like the CAF battery train test that highlighted both progress and limits for new technology.
MG’s ability to collect tens of thousands of orders in days is a clear signal to established automakers: in China, speed and price can outweigh brand history. For European buyers, though, the MG 07 is still just a possibility. It will only become real if MG completes local certification, publishes WLTP data, and sets a price that works in euros. Until then, the 07’s record debut is a headline for China, not a turning point for Spain.
