One person was gored and eight others injured as La Palmosilla’s bulls completed the sixth San Fermín encierro in Pamplona in two minutes and twenty-three seconds. The Andalusian bulls kept up a relentless pace, with a cabestro leading the pack and setting a demanding rhythm for the animals and participants.
The run follows Pamplona’s established route from Santo Domingo through the Ayuntamiento and Mercaderes sections, along Estafeta and toward the bullring. From the start at Santo Domingo, dense crowds led to frequent falls along the route. As the bulls reached the Ayuntamiento stretch, runners tried to keep pace, but the animals’ speed and force made for a difficult run. At the Mercaderes curve, most bulls took the outside line and collided with barriers near the press area. A cabestro forced one bull inside.
On Estafeta Street, the herd briefly split, opening gaps for daring sprints. The bulls picked up speed as they entered the Telefónica section. One charged along the right side, knocking several runners to the ground and tossing one participant several meters ahead. A chestnut-colored bull moved toward runners on the left, while one of the two black bulls swept across the right side.
Medical teams reported nine injuries during the run. The person who suffered a goring was treated immediately in the bullring’s infirmary, while the eight others sustained contusions. The incidents again focused attention on crowding and safety during the festival. The fifth encierro was similarly tense, with fourteen people injured in a chaotic run involving José Escolar bulls.
La Palmosilla, a herd with a strong reputation in Pamplona for its performance in the ring, again showed its speed and unpredictability. The Sunday lineup features matadors Fortes, Fernando Adrián and Samuel Navalón, adding to anticipation for the afternoon’s events. Held every July, San Fermín draws locals and visitors to Pamplona. The encierro remains basic to the city’s cultural identity.
