Rafa Jódar reached his first ATP 500 final at the Washington Open, extending a breakthrough 2026 season that began with his maiden ATP title in Marrakech. Taylor Fritz beat the Spaniard 7-6(2), 6-4 in the final. Jódar finished runner-up at his second ATP Tour final of the season, rather than claiming a second title.
The Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET) records Jódar’s career-high ranking as world No. 11 on 10 August 2026. He first appeared in the ATP rankings at No. 1,676 in December 2023, then finished 2024 at No. 896 and 2025 at No. 168. At 19, he also became the sixth Spanish player in the Open Era to win his first ATP title before turning 20.
Washington was one of several impressive results in Jódar’s season. The RFET lists semifinal appearances at the ATP Masters 1000 in Montréal and the ATP 500 in Barcelona. It also records a final at the Canberra ATP Challenger. Jódar won the Marrakech title on his first appearance on the ATP Tour’s clay-court circuit, while Washington brought him his first ATP 500 final.
Jódar’s rapid climb accompanied a landmark season on tennis’s biggest stages: he made his debut at all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2026. At the French Open, he reached the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Alexander Zverev. Alongside the Washington final, those results marked his rise from outside the top 150 at the start of the year into the world’s top 15.
