Spain's Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre-Real Casa de la Moneda (FNMT) has launched a new collector's coin to commemorate the national football team's triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The silver coin, with a face value of 5 euros, is limited to a maximum of 50,000 units and is available for purchase at an initial price of 60.33 euros before VAT.
Sales began on July 31 through the official FNMT channels, including the Casa de la Moneda Museum shop in Madrid, the institution's online store, and authorized partners. The coin is not intended for everyday circulation, but rather as a collector's item, reflecting both its precious metal content and its limited edition status.
Price and Value
Although the coin bears a 5-euro denomination, its retail price is set much higher due to the value of the silver, the minting process, and its collectible nature. The official price is regulated by a government order published in the BOE, which also allows for price adjustments if the market price of precious metals fluctuates by more than 4% from the previous month's average. Any such change would require prior reports from both the Bank of Spain and the FNMT.

The coin follows the traditional four reales metric and is crafted from 925-millesimal silver, with the remainder of the alloy being copper. It weighs 13.50 grams (with a tolerance of 0.20 grams) and measures 33 millimeters in diameter. The piece is circular, features a milled edge, and is struck in Proof quality, a finish that enhances the contrast and detail of the design—an approach favored for collectible issues.
While the 50,000-unit mintage is higher than some recent Spanish numismatic releases, it remains a strictly limited edition. For comparison, the FNMT's 10-euro coin marking the 500th anniversary of the Council of State was limited to just 4,000 pieces.

The obverse of the coin displays a left-profile portrait of King Felipe VI, surrounded by the inscription “Felipe VI Rey de España” at the top and the year 2026 at the bottom, flanked by two dots and encircled by a pearl border.
The reverse is dedicated to the World Cup victory, featuring the official FIFA World Cup 2026 logo at the top and the phrase “Campeones del Mundo” at the bottom. At the center, the World Cup trophy is depicted in color. Two five-pointed stars appear on either side of the trophy, symbolizing Spain's two world titles, with one star highlighted by the colors of the Spanish flag.
