Spain’s official calendar keeps the twice-yearly clock change in place through 2031. On 25 October, clocks go back one hour, with the Canary Islands changing earlier.

At 3:00 a.m. on Sunday 25 October, clocks in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands will move back to 2:00. The repeated hour makes the calendar day 25 hours long.

The Canary Islands make the same change an hour earlier, at 2:00, moving clocks back to 1:00. The islands sit in a separate time zone but follow the same seasonal clock-change system.

The timetable rests on EU Directive 2000/84/EC, which sets the end of summer time at 1:00 a.m. UTC on the last Sunday in October. Spain’s rules also include Royal Decree 236/2002. Article 5 provides for publication of an official calendar of summer-time periods. The European Commission has examined whether to abolish the seasonal changes, but member states have not agreed on a common approach, including whether to keep permanent summer or winter time. The current schedule remains in force.

Spain’s Official State Gazette published the 25 October 2026 change as part of a five-year calendar in March 2022. That was the final year covered by the original Spanish calendar. In March 2026, the European Commission published a harmonised schedule extending the dates through 2031. The new timetable continues the existing system and leaves the debate over seasonal time unresolved.

The calendar dispute is separate from the EU’s budget negotiations, including the 2028-2034 budget talks.

The calendar sets the 2027 changes for 28 March and 31 October, and the 2028 changes for 26 March and 29 October.

In 2029, clocks change on 25 March and 28 October. The 2030 dates are 31 March and 27 October.

For 2031, the listed dates are 30 March and 26 October. Spring changes move clocks forward; autumn changes move them back.

In 2026, the clocks go back during the night from Saturday 24 to Sunday 25 October. The next change is scheduled for 28 March 2027, when clocks will move forward again.
