The financial assets of Spain’s 100 wealthiest individuals have shown remarkable growth, rising by nearly 28% over the past year. The combined capital of this elite group has reached €250.4 billion. Notably, there have been significant changes in the top ten, which now features near gender parity for the first time in history. While last year there was only one woman among the top ten, there are now four.
Amancio Ortega, founder of textile giant Inditex, remains the unchallenged leader of the ranking. He has topped the list for a decade, and his fortune has set a new record, reaching €120.2 billion. Over the past year, his capital grew by 46.9%, allowing him to climb to ninth place on the global list of the world’s richest people, overtaking many well-known entrepreneurs.
The second spot is confidently held by his daughter, Sandra Ortega, who remains the country’s richest woman. Her assets have risen by 46% to an estimated €10.4 billion. The combined wealth of father and daughter, who together own 65% of Inditex shares, is nearly double the gross domestic product of their native Galicia, which stands at around €69.4 billion.
Rafael del Pino, president of the construction company Ferrovial, holds onto the third-place spot. His fortune grew by 20% to reach €7.1 billion. This rise followed the relocation of the company’s tax residency from Spain to the Netherlands. Juan Roig, head of the supermarket chain Mercadona, climbed to fourth place, with his net worth soaring by 49% to €5.8 billion.
Rounding out the top five is Isak Andic, co-founder and president of Mango. He made a remarkable leap, moving up from tenth to fifth place with a fortune of 4.5 billion euros. Following him in sixth place is Juan Carlos Escotet, president of Abanca, whose wealth remains at 4 billion euros. However, due to the rapid rise of his competitors, he slipped down a few positions.
Seventh place goes to María del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, daughter of the founder of Ferrovial, with a fortune of 3.2 billion euros—an increase of 28% compared to last year. Close behind her is Hortensia Herrero, vice president of Mercadona and wife of Juan Roig, who ranks eighth with an identical net worth of 3.2 billion euros. The ninth spot belongs to Daniel Maté, the richest Basque, who amassed 3.1 billion euros through mining and metals. Completing the top 10 is Sol Daurella Comadrán, president of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, whose fortune surged by 50% to reach 3 billion euros.
