Montse Tomé, who has completed her tenure with the Spanish national women’s team, shared her impressions of the recently concluded period. According to her, the time spent as head coach was an important professional challenge and a source of new knowledge.
Tomé noted that during her leadership of the team, she grew significantly as a professional. She emphasized that she now feels better prepared for future challenges and is confident that she will be able to make more considered decisions going forward.
Reflecting on her time in the role, Montse admitted that perhaps in certain situations she should have acted more calmly. However, she explained that the daily pace was very intense and there was almost no time for reflection. Tomé took over as coach in September 2023, replacing Jorge Vilda, and in 2024 led the team to victory in the Nations League.
In Tomé’s opinion, the coaching profession involves constant risks and instability. She stressed that in football, unexpected decisions are often made and every day at work could be the last. Nevertheless, she tried to enjoy every moment, understanding that the situation could change at any time.
Montse also expressed the view that she did not always receive the recognition she deserved. She believes that football, like life, is not always fair, and coaches often face consequences beyond their control, even if their results and work have been exemplary. Despite this, Tomé feels proud of the job she has done and the successes achieved.
