In mid-September, the region of Murcia will launch a new festival that brings together music, local traditions, and the natural beauty of the Ricote Valley. Murmullo Festival will run from September 13 to October 5 in four municipalities at once: Ulea, Villanueva del Río Segura, Ojós, and Ricote. Organizers promise an intimate atmosphere, a limited number of guests, and a rich program focused on environmental awareness and deep immersion in local culture.
Over four weekends, the Ricote Valley will transform into a cultural venue where music will play against a backdrop of historic landscapes and picturesque gardens along the Segura River. The festival program features performances by artists who reinterpret their regions’ folklore, blending traditional motifs with contemporary musical trends.
Headline acts include Calequi y las Panteras, known for their mix of funk, Afropop, and Latin American rhythms; the duo Tarta Relena, who reimagine the Mediterranean musical heritage; the project Verde Prato, which unites Basque oral tradition with electronic sounds; as well as Maestro Espada, a band experimenting with contemporary takes on Murcian folklore, adding elements of rock and other popular genres. Each town will host three concerts in unique venues — from central squares to historic corners where music will blend seamlessly with the natural and architectural surroundings.
However, the festival offers much more than just musical events. The program includes ceramics workshops, yoga and meditation sessions, training in making natural cosmetics using citrus fruits, as well as tours of traditional gardens, archaeological sites, and the historic Ayaga canning factory. Visitors will also find markets featuring local products, themed walks, and sensory routes that provide a fresh perspective on the Ricote Valley.
Special attention is given to accessibility: some events, including guided tours and yoga sessions, will be free of charge. Tickets for the main concerts cost a symbolic 5 euros plus a fee, highlighting the festival’s inclusive approach. Due to limited capacity, organizers recommend purchasing tickets in advance.
Murmullo Festival aims to make the Ricote Valley an appealing destination for fans of slow tourism and lovers of authentic cultural experiences. By combining music, nature, and local traditions, the festival is set to become one of Murcia’s most exciting autumn events, offering residents and visitors alike a new view of the region.
