The Korean automaker Kia has unveiled the second generation of its popular Seltos crossover, now even more appealing for European buyers. The new version features a noticeably updated exterior, advanced technology, and an expanded range of engines. Seltos is positioned as a smart alternative to the more expensive Sportage, while still offering a high level of equipment and comfort.
The car made its debut in an online presentation called ‘The Protagonist’, featuring stories of people striving for change and new opportunities. Kia management notes that the second-generation Seltos was designed to meet current demands for mobility and individuality, and aims to strengthen the brand’s position in the compact SUV segment.
Exterior design
The exterior of the 2025 Seltos has become noticeably more striking. The body now features muscular lines, with proportions that highlight the car’s dynamic character. It measures 4,430 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, 1,600 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, ensuring a spacious interior. The prominent new grille stands out, along with unique LED lighting with a ‘star map’ motif, vertical rear lights, and flush door handles. Buyers can choose between the X-Line with an off-road emphasis or the sportier GT-Line. The color palette includes Iceberg Green, Gravity Gray, and an eye-catching matte Magma Red.
Interior and features
The Seltos interior has undergone significant changes. The instrument panel is now horizontal, visually expanding the space. The new Shift-by-Wire system has freed up the center console, and the rear seats can now recline for extra comfort. The cabin features customizable ambient lighting with 64 color options, and premium sound is delivered by Harman Kardon or Bose audio systems. Through the Kia Connect Store, owners have access to updates and exclusive content, including partnerships with Disney and NBA.
Technical specifications
The engine lineup includes three gasoline units: a turbocharged 1.6 T-GDI with 180 hp paired with either a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed manual, a more powerful 193 hp version with an eight-speed automatic, and a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine producing 149 hp. Some trims are available with all-wheel drive, a multi-link rear suspension, and a Terrain mode that helps drive confidently over snow, mud, or sand. A hybrid version is expected in 2026, featuring V2L two-way charging and the advanced Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0 system.
Safety and practicality
In terms of safety, Seltos is equipped with a modern suite of electronic assistants: HDA 2, LFA 2, FCA 2, a 360° surround view camera, exit warning system, and a head-up display. Drivers also benefit from two 12.3-inch screens, over-the-air (OTA) updates, a digital key, and a spacious 536-liter trunk.
Production of the new Seltos will begin in India in December 2025, and throughout 2026 the model will become available in South Korea, North America, Europe, and China. Kia anticipates that the updated crossover will attract those seeking a modern and practical vehicle at a more affordable price point than the flagship Sportage.
