Lamine Yamal will not take part in the upcoming matches of the Spanish national team against Georgia and Bulgaria. Although the player was included in the squad by the coaching staff, his absence is due to his physical condition, as notified by the club.
Before publishing the squad list, representatives of Barcelona and the federation held standard talks. During the discussion, which took place on Thursday evening, the Catalan club’s medical staff reported severe fatigue and minor discomfort for Yamal after the match against Paris Saint-Germain. At the same time, there was no mention of an injury that would have prevented him from playing at the Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville.
Based on the information received, the national team coaching staff decided to include Yamal in the squad, counting on his readiness to play over the weekend. However, it was noted that the situation required further monitoring, especially ahead of the match in Seville.
On Friday evening, after the official squad announcement, Barcelona released a medical report that surprised federation staff. If this information had been provided earlier, or if the club had warned in advance about Yamal’s unavailability, his name would not have appeared on the call-up list.
For comparison, Paris Saint-Germain notified in advance about Fabián Ruiz’s condition, which allowed him to avoid being called up to the national team. In Yamal’s case, the situation was less clear, leading to a misunderstanding between the club and the federation.
This incident became yet another link in a series of misunderstandings surrounding the young footballer. Previously, Yamal left the national team camp on September 7 due to back pain, which was managed with medication. Later, he was found to have groin issues, which the federation was unaware of and for which they were even criticized.
As a result, the national team’s coaching staff is now forced to look for a replacement at winger, as Yamal will be out for up to three weeks.
