On Saturday morning, an unusual incident occurred at A Coruña airport: a wild boar ran onto the runway. The crew of a plane arriving from Madrid had to alter their route and was unable to land at their scheduled destination. Passengers were diverted to Santiago de Compostela, where they were accommodated as they awaited further instructions.
The aircraft’s captain informed passengers of the forced landing in another city, explaining that he had no other choice. According to him, their flight was not the only one affected: other planes preparing to depart from A Coruña were also delayed or redirected.
Airport staff began work to eliminate the consequences of the incident. Security personnel and technical specialists inspected the area to ensure there was no further threat to upcoming flights. It has not yet been announced when the airport will return to normal operations.
Passengers who ended up in Santiago expressed confusion and concern about the fate of their connecting flights. Some remarked that such situations are extremely rare and that they never expected to encounter such a problem during a routine flight.
The incident affected both arriving and departing flights. Airlines promptly began notifying customers about possible schedule changes and offering alternative routes. Security at A Coruña Airport was reinforced around the perimeter to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
