The authorities of Andalucía have announced their plans for 2026, promising a pivotal moment for the region. The new budget project allocates €51.58 billion—an increase of 5.6% compared to the current year. This growth has been made possible thanks to the region’s sustained economic recovery following the aftermath of the 2009 crisis.
Healthcare is the top priority in the allocation of funds. More than €16.2 billion is planned for medical needs, which is 6.6% higher than last year’s figure. This decision is linked to the need to strengthen the healthcare system after recent problems with the breast cancer screening program. The authorities aim not only to address the consequences of those errors, but also to improve the quality of medical services for all residents of the region.
The second most important area is social programs. Additional funding will go to support for vulnerable citizens, education, and housing construction. Nearly €800 million has been allocated for these purposes, making up two-thirds of the total budget increase. This approach is expected to provide a higher level of social protection and greater access to housing for the population.
Investment and the Labor Market: New Horizons
In 2026, Andalusia plans to increase investment by 10%, reaching 6.4 billion euros. While this figure has not yet returned to the record highs seen before the 2008 crisis, the trend remains positive. Regional authorities are confident that growing investment will drive infrastructure development and create new jobs.
Special attention is being paid to reducing unemployment. Projections for next year include the creation of nearly 88,000 new jobs and bringing the unemployment rate below 14%. If achieved, this would mark the region’s lowest level of unemployment since 2007. Economic growth for 2026 is forecasted at 2.3% of GDP, supported by both tax reforms and increased budget revenues driven by rising business activity.
Financial Policy and Priorities
In recent years, Andalusia has repeatedly reduced taxes, which, according to regional authorities, has helped boost budget revenues. Experts note that the positive trend is largely due to population growth and a more active labor market. Regional leaders remain committed to further reducing the tax burden, expecting to expand the tax base through continued economic growth.
The budget presentation took place in an unusual format: key figures were announced first, while details and specific projects will be revealed in the coming days. This approach helps focus public attention on the main priorities—healthcare, education, social support, and infrastructure development.
Overall, the new budget of Andalucía for 2026 reflects the regional government’s commitment to sustainable development, improving quality of life, and creating conditions for long-term economic growth.
