In 2025, the Phenomena Experience cinema in Barcelona was recognized as the best cinema venue in Europe, receiving the prestigious Carlo Lizziani award. This event marked a significant moment for the Spanish film industry and highlighted the unique status of the venue among European cinemas.
Phenomena Experience is located in the Eixample district at 168 Sant Antoni Maria Claret Street. The cinema is known for its single auditorium, which features one of the largest screens in Spain—15 meters wide and over 6 meters high. Its technical set-up includes a modern five-channel acoustic system and a special sound wall, ensuring top-quality audio and visuals.
The auditorium screens films on classic 35mm and 70mm film with magnetic sound, as well as in the latest generation digital formats. This approach preserves the traditions of film projection while embracing technological progress. Every showing here becomes a real event for audiences who appreciate both atmosphere and high-quality viewing.
The cinema opened in 2019 thanks to Spanish director Nacho Cerda. Since its inception, it has showcased both iconic classics and contemporary blockbusters, as well as rare premieres and exclusive releases. The film program is always carefully curated to appeal to a diverse audience.
In addition to regular screenings, Phenomena Experience has become a venue for premieres, TV series presentations, commercial shoots, master classes, and film festivals. The venue quickly earned a reputation as a hub for film enthusiasts and industry professionals.
The cinema’s interior also deserves attention. The lobby is decorated in a retro style with a geometric carpet inspired by the film “The Shining”, red sofas, and display cases featuring original posters and photochromes. This atmosphere creates the feeling of a true temple of cinema and highlights the venue’s respect for film history.
The Carlo Lizziani Prize, awarded by the National Association of Italian Film Authors (ANAC), recognizes cinemas that support and promote auteur and quality cinema, as well as preserve the tradition of communal viewing. The award ceremony will take place on September 5 as part of the 82nd Venice Film Festival. The award will be accepted by the founder and director of Phenomena Experience, Nacho Cerdà.
In the coming weeks, the cinema will continue its vibrant program. Until September 14, audiences can see films such as “Fallen Angels”, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, and “Dunkirk” in 4K format, along with special retrospectives of Alfred Hitchcock and screenings of new releases, including “F1”, “Weapons”, and “Materialistas”.
Phenomena Experience continues to strengthen its reputation not only as a venue for film screenings but also as a cultural center that brings together movie enthusiasts and industry professionals. Recognition at the European level confirms that Barcelona remains one of the key cities for the development of cinema in Spain and beyond.
