Borja Sémper, spokesperson for the Partido Popular, made an unexpected appearance at the party’s first leadership meeting of the year. His return was a real event for his colleagues: not long ago, he was forced to step away due to a serious diagnosis. Last July, Sémper was diagnosed with a malignant tumor, and since then he has been undergoing intensive treatment. Despite this, he remained in touch with the party and continued to inform the public about his condition through social media.
At the meeting held at the Génova headquarters, Sémper appeared alongside party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo and parliamentary spokesperson Ester Muñoz. Photos from the meeting quickly spread across the media, and Feijóo did not hide his joy at his colleague’s return. In a social media post, he called Sémper ‘the new guy in the office’ and expressed gratitude for his presence.
Diagnosis and treatment
Sémper openly shared news of his illness back in the summer, concealing neither the diagnosis nor the difficulties of treatment. He explained that the tumor was detected at an early stage, which gave him good chances for recovery. However, the treatment was challenging: chemotherapy, constant medical procedures, and a necessary reduction in public activity. Nevertheless, Sémper did not leave politics completely and continued to fulfill his party spokesperson duties as much as possible.
For four months, he underwent chemotherapy and regularly updated his followers about his condition. In one of his latest messages, he noted that he had not received chemotherapy for four weeks, his hair was beginning to grow back, and his strength was gradually returning. Semper never hid his gratitude for the support he received from colleagues, friends, and ordinary citizens. His remark that it was impossible to respond to every message of support reflects the scale of the public’s response.
Return to Politics
Semper’s appearance at the party leadership meeting became a symbol of his return to active political life. Although his treatment is not yet complete, he chose to personally attend this important event for the party. This decision even earned the respect of his opponents: not everyone is able to return to work in such a challenging period.
Semper has always been open and willing to talk about personal difficulties. His example is inspiring to many who face similar challenges. In September, he already attended a party event together with journalists, but back then it was more of an exception. Now, however, his return appears to be a conscious step toward resuming his previous level of activity.
Party Reaction
Semper’s return to the Partido Popular was greeted with enthusiasm. Colleagues praise his resilience and professionalism. Party leader Feijóo openly says he is counting on Semper’s continued involvement in the leadership’s work. For the party, his return is not only a symbol of support but also an important human resource.
Despite his fatigue and the effects of treatment, Semper remains optimistic. He continues to share his thoughts and feelings on social media, bringing him even closer to voters. His story is not just about illness, but an example of how to overcome adversity while staying true to one’s beliefs.
