In Valladolid, police officers detained a young business owner suspected of employing illegal labor. The investigation revealed that his café employed twelve foreigners without residency or work permits for Spain.
The operation began back in April, when labor inspectors and police officers became interested in one of the city’s popular establishments. Inspections were carried out repeatedly, and each time individuals without official documents were found on the premises. All of them were working in the kitchen and dining area, performing duties without contracts or social benefits.
These employees worked ten-hour shifts, with only one day off per week. Their monthly pay was around €800, with no vacation or sick leave provided. There were also no employment contracts or registration in the social security system.
According to investigators, the business owner deliberately hired undocumented workers to cut costs and increase profits. He took advantage of the vulnerable position of migrants, who were afraid to seek help due to the risk of deportation. As a result, the workers were forced to accept any conditions to avoid losing their only source of income.
During the final stage of an operation dubbed “Panda,” police arrested the business owner. He is accused of organizing an illegal employment scheme and systematically exploiting foreign workers. Authorities are now deciding on further actions regarding the detainee and possible sanctions against the company.
