Barcelona is preparing for the highly anticipated return of fans to Camp Nou stadium. This Saturday, the arena will once again be filled with supporters: up to 45,000 people will be able to attend the match between the home team and Athletic de Bilbao. This is the first major game since the partial reopening of the stadium, and city authorities are implementing a range of new measures to manage traffic and ensure the comfort of residents in nearby neighborhoods.
Pedestrians and public transport take priority
As part of a new sustainable mobility plan developed in collaboration with residents, the city council, and the football club, the main emphasis is on walking access to the stadium. Metro, tram, and bus services will be reinforced for match attendees. On game days, three metro lines (L3, L5, L9S/L10S), three tram routes (T1, T2, T3), and ten city bus routes will be in operation. Additionally, more than twenty intercity and express routes connecting Barcelona with neighboring municipalities are planned.
Car restrictions and new parking zones
To ease traffic congestion and minimize inconvenience for local residents, entry restrictions are being introduced for vehicles that do not belong to residents. In particular, access on Mejía Lequerica and Felipe de Paz streets will be controlled: only residents, parking users, and service vehicles will be allowed through. Cameras and municipal police will enforce these measures. Within a 1.5-kilometer radius of the stadium, there are around 8,000 spaces in underground parking lots and 1,500 spots in street parking areas. An additional 2,000 spaces for motorcycles will be available on university campus grounds and adjacent lots on match days.
Bus, taxi, and accessible transport arrangements
A clear pick-up and drop-off route has been arranged for buses transporting organized groups of fans. Passengers will disembark at the upper section of Martí i Franquès street, while parking will be at the former Miniestadi site. After the match, buses will wait for passengers in designated lanes to avoid congestion and speed up departures. On match days, taxis will operate from a single stop at Menéndez y Pelayo street, allowing for quick walks to the stadium. Separate parking areas for people with limited mobility are designated at the final stretch of Martí i Franquès, as well as on Arístides Maillol and Travesera de Les Corts streets.
Safety and comfort for local residents
Special attention has been given to the interests of residents living near the stadium. They will retain their usual access to their homes at any time and by any means of transport. On match days, traffic in the Felipe de Paz area will be allowed only for residents and service vehicles, with cameras installed at seven checkpoints to automatically monitor entry. All these measures are designed to ensure that the return of football fans does not disrupt the daily life of local residents.
